About Us
Lux Brumalis was founded from a deep appreciation for traditional candle making - a craft shaped by patience, precision, and time-honoured technique. In an era of fast production, we were drawn to the quiet integrity of candles still made by hand, using methods that have remained largely unchanged for generations.

Our candles are crafted in New South Wales using a traditional dipping process that prioritises consistency, quality, and performance. This slower approach allows each candle to form naturally, helping ensure an even, reliable burn.

We use:
✔ fully refined, food-grade paraffin wax
✔ contains no ashes or resins

Lux Brumalis exists to honour craftsmanship while bringing quietly refined light into the homes of those who value authenticity over excess.
A Little Candle History
Candles have been brightening human life for thousands of years - literally! From prehistoric cave paintings to Egyptian tombs, and even early biblical references, humans have long loved the glow of a flickering flame. Historian Pliny tells us that in the first century AD, candles were made from pitch with flax wicks, or molten wax with rushes dipped in for lighting.
Over time, candles became the main source of light in homes. The Greeks and Romans made candles from flax threads coated with wax or pitch, while other countries experimented with palm oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and olive oil. In England, bayberry wax was refined for candle-making, and the earliest dipped candles were made of tallow, which is animal fat from cows or sheep. For centuries, candles, alongside oil lamps, were the only way to illuminate homes at night.

Fast forward to today, and electricity has taken over as our main source of light. But candles are far from obsolete! They still create magic, adding warmth, calm, romance, and sacredness to our homes, celebrations, and ceremonies.
